Have you ever thought about moving to Vermont? What are peoples opinions / think about living here that are born Vermonters and some that have moved to Vermont.
Why do people move here to Vermont or want to eventually, to live out the Vermont dream?
Do you know what the Vermont “dream” is exactly? According to Ai, the Vermont dream is “Often idealized pursuit of a higher quality of life. Characterized by a slower-paced rural and nature focused lifestyle in the existence of the Green Mountain State.”
Commonground asked Harwood students and adults (both born Vermonters and transplants) a series of questions about how they felt toward their life around the Vermont “dream”.
One high schooler from Vermont had been asked what they thought the Vermont “dream” was. They replied that “I think the dream is to be more of an outdoorsy state with many opportunities throughout life.”
They were then asked if they thought they were living in the AI version of the VT dream.
“Sometimes I do feel that I am living the Vermont dream, but at other times I do not. I feel that Vermont is not as rural as it used to be when I was younger, maybe that’s just because I was a child, but honestly Vermont has changed a lot since when I was younger.”
Commonground also asked if they thought if they wanted to stay in Vermont the rest of their life, and why.
“I’m not very sure yet but I definitely do want to go around the U.S. and explore other states before I do end up settling down.”
We have asked Lena, another junior from Harwood, who’s originally from Vermont if they thought they were living the Vermont dream.
“It’s not my dream, but probably having a big log cabin (rich undercover), lots of land, business owner, outside a lot, big family.”
We then asked if they were living the real Vermont “dream”.
She had then said “No, I’m living my own dream!”
Do you want to stay in Vermont?
“No , I like warm air. I hate it here… Nothing about it has me wanting to stay here.”
We had then asked some Vermont transplants the same questions and what they thought the Vermont “dream”is.
Many people are brought to Vermont by the mountains, a slower pace of life while also still having a small but incredibly strong sense of community. Yet that is true, it is also true that many people will be moving here within the next few years from more urban areas. These people are seeking and wanting to live the green mountain dream that us Vermonters already call our home.
