Beat Boredom This Winter

As the snow begins to fall, some are running outside in happiness and some are rushing inside in despair. Regardless of which category you fall under, here is a list of things to do to make the most out of this winter.

Local juniors Aidan Flint (left) and Morgan Frank took advantage of an early snow day by hiking Mad River Glen

Sled: If you don’t have ski stuff or just don’t want to deal with the crowds up at the mountain, sledding is a pretty close second. Grab your favorite sled and go find your nearest hill.

Spend Time With Your Friends or Family: Chances are your family and friends are equally as bored as you are. Spending time with them will not only help you feel better

but them as well.

Ski or Snowboard: Perhaps the most expensive on the list, but well worth it. Harwood is situated close to some of the best mountains in the state. These mountains also have good programs for rentals if you aren’t looking to break the bank. Another option is just taking an old pair of skis to a hill.

Snowball Fight: A winter classic. Get some friends and go outside and start chucking snowballs at each other. Simple, cheap fun!

Learn an Instrument: Maybe it’s time to dust that old guitar in the attic off and learn to play. Chances are someone in your family can help you. If not, Youtube can always help.

Read a Book: There’s something to be said for just curling up in front of the fire with a good book in the winter. Nothing really compares. Some suggestions I don’t want to tell you what to do too much. but if you’re having trouble finding a book, Harry Potter is always a good option.

Make Hot Chocolate: Hot Chocolate along with a good book, now that’s how you relax. Don’t have Hot Chocolate? Tea or Coffee can do just as well.

Sleep: Shorter days mean longer nights. Take advantage of these by getting enough sleep. Maybe with more sleep, you’ll have more energy to do the awesome things on this list.

Snowman: When you’re all tired out from the snowball fight, I encourage you to make three more snowballs. Make them big. Stack them on top of eachother then add anything you want to see your snowman come to life.

Snowshoe: Do you like hiking? If yes, snowshoeing is for you. Strap the snowshoes on and get up there and see some beautiful views.

Rearrange Things: Take advantage of the cold outside to rearrange the warm inside. Maybe it’s time to move your bed to the wall you’ve wanted to or get rid of that old dresser in your closet.

Ice Skating: Ice skating is very fun. Find an old pair of skates somewhere. You can go to the Waterbury Ice Rink, The Skatium, or just find a pond nearby. Just make sure the pond is frozen enough.

Hopefully these will help you get out and make the most of this winter. Remember, these are just suggestions. You can take these ideas and modify them any way you wish. Just make sure you are having fun this winter!
