For the longest time, Kahoot has been the number one competitor for students’ attention in class, but recently, a new challenger has entered the ring. Its name is Blooket, and it packs a heavy punch. Kahoot and Blooket are both programs that teachers use to help kids study in class, but the question is, which one is better? Will Kahoot be able to win this fight and continue to be the reigning champion, or will the underdog finally take Kahoot from its throne? Let’s find out, shall we.
Kahoot has always been a great way for teachers to engage students in class because of its play style where kids have to answer questions quickly in order to get higher up on the leader board. This makes kids learn while having fun which leads to them looking forward to going to class. I went to Mrs. Kelly who is a teacher who still uses Kahoot to learn why she uses it, and she explains that, “it’s a good change from the pace of the class,” and she continued to tell me how she would operate it in the classroom by using the different lengths of Kahoot, for how much she wants to go over the material that they’ve learned in class.
Blooket has shown up out of nowhere in the recent year and has taken students’ attention span by storm, so much so that even in some rare cases students will request to play it instead of a Kahoot. The difference between Blooket and Kahoot is that Blooket has different game modes that you play in between questions that vary from Gold Rush, to Deceptive Dinos. Mr. Sargent is one of the teachers at Harwood that uses Blooket and I went to him to ask why he uses it instead of Kahoot. He explained, “The thing I liked about it is that you could play the different games and it wasn’t just one format… and so all of a sudden I’m typing in the same content, but now you can play it in different ways and I found it to be very engaging for students.” Even though the content that you put in is still the same, people can play it again and again without getting bored because of the different game modes so it’s very effective for review of content.
These two powerhouses are great in strength, but even the greatest have Achilles heels.Mrs. Kelly told me, “Recently Kahoot has changed so that public Kahoots are not free, so you have to have a different membership for Kahoot now so some of the better Kahoots that have been made,” from “legitimate sources, sometimes you have to pay for those.” Kahoot, realizing how large it has become in the education world, has now decided to hide some of its features behind a paywall, so you can not use them unless you get the membership.
I also did a few rounds of both Blooket and Kahoot with some friends to see which one they thought was better in a head to head match, and during the Blooket they said that it was hard to understand, and that they didn’t really know what they were doing, or how to play the mini-game.
So who wins the fight? Well I’m afraid I can not answer that question, for it is up to you to decide. I have given you the facts that you need to know about both of the games, now you have to try them out and see which one you like better. Basically, if you want to try something new that might be challenging, try out Blooket, but if not, then stick with the classic Kahoot, they both have the same purpose in the end either way.
