Sports seasons are coming to an end, which means playoff season is in full swing! On June 5, our very own #9 seed Harwood Girls Varsity Lacrosse defeats #8 seed Colchester, 11 to 10, which brings them to the quarterfinal game on Friday, June 7 where they take on the #1 seed Hartford, away at 5:30 P.M. This game is predicted to be a tough one, but our girls will give it their all and hope to advance to the semifinals. “We are the underdogs in this game, but we are hoping to make our way to the top,” says team captain Lindsey Boyden. “In the past, it has been a struggle to play Hartford, we have never come out on top, so we are hoping to use this game to have fun and be the best we can be!”
Along with Girls’ lacrosse, the #7 seed Harwood Varsity Baseball team brought home another huge win on June 5th, defeating #10 seed Lake Region, 7 to 5, taking them to the quarterfinals on Friday, June 7, where they take on #15 seed Milton, home at 4:30. The team is confident in their upcoming game against Milton, although they know they will still need to fight hard. “We have beat them twice already this season, so we are coming in knowing we can beat them. We are not going to be overlooking them,” says team captain Nate Conyers. “They fought hard against Montpelier so we are going to go out there and play our game and hope to come out on top.”
On June 5th, our #14 seed Harwood Varsity softball team fought hard but ultimately fell to #3 seed Hartford, ending the 2024 Harwood Varsity softball season.
So far we have had three thrilling Harwood playoff games this week, but there is still more to come. On Friday, June 7, our #2 seed Harwood Boys Varsity Lacrosse team, takes on #7 seed St. Johnsbury, home at 4:30 for an exciting quarterfinal game, hoping to advance to the semifinals which will be held on June 11, at 4:30 P.M. “I think the team will play well today. In the past we blew St. Johnsbury out of the water, so we have high hopes for today’s game,” says team member Sean Geary.
Good luck, Highlanders!
